NT Buffaloes Women Announce Squad for 2026 Queensland State Titles

Baseball Northern Territory is proud to announce the 12-player NT Buffaloes Women’s squad to compete in Division 2 at the 2026 Queensland Women’s State Titles, held from 11–13 December at Runcorn Indians Baseball Club in Brisbane.

The Buffs return following a memorable bronze-medal campaign in 2025, when the Territory fielded its first women’s representative baseball team since 2013. A victory over North Queensland secured bronze and marked an exciting new chapter for women’s baseball in the NT. This year’s squad will look to build on that foundation, bringing tournament experience and fresh faces together in Territory colours.

Gemma Scales returns as Head Coach after leading last year’s successful campaign. She will again be supported by Narelle Gosstray and Rebecca Love  as Assistant Coaches and Christie Cann as Scorer, providing continuity for the group heading into its second consecutive State Titles appearance.

Scales also brings experience from her appointment as Assistant Coach with the Roos program at the Australian Women’s Championships in April. Buffaloes squad members Libby Price and Zoe-Mellissa Webb also competed with the Roos, gaining valuable exposure to national-level competition and demonstrating the opportunities opening up for Territory players and coaches.

A significant addition to this year’s squad is Hannah Fior, the team’s sole Alice Springs representative. Following an entirely Darwin-based squad in 2025, Fior’s inclusion extends the reach of the women’s Buffaloes program and strengthens the connection between the Territory’s baseball communities.

Fior has already enjoyed a busy representative year, earning selection in the NT Buffaloes Senior League Emerging squad and representing Queensland at the Australian Youth Women’s Championships in Melbourne. At the youth championships, she recorded a .455 batting average while contributing on the mound and in the outfield—experience she will now bring to the women’s Buffaloes campaign.

Baseball Northern Territory Participation & Pathways Manager Kai Meuronen said the team’s return was another encouraging step for the women’s game.

“It’s really exciting to see our women heading back to Queensland and building on what they achieved last year. Bringing home bronze was a fantastic result, but just as exciting is seeing that opportunity continue and more women getting the chance to pull on a Buffaloes uniform,” Meuronen said.

“The Roos program has shown how valuable these opportunities can be, with Territory players and coaches gaining experience at the Australian Women’s Championships and bringing that knowledge back into our local community. Having Hannah join the squad from Alice Springs is another positive step. We want women and girls across the NT to see that there is a place for them in baseball and opportunities to keep progressing.”

“Last year gave us a much better understanding of tournament baseball—how to manage a busy schedule, adapt as a team and keep backing each other when games get tough. We learned so much, and I’m excited to take those lessons into this campaign,” Scales said.

“The friendships, laughs and support within the group were such a big part of last year’s experience. We’ve got familiar faces returning and new players bringing their own energy, and I’m looking forward to seeing this group build that same connection. I can’t wait to get back to Runcorn, see how much we’ve grown and represent the Territory together.”

With opportunities spanning local competition, the Buffaloes program and national championship participation, the 2026 campaign represents another chance to turn the growing interest in women’s baseball into lasting experiences for Territory players.
